A signed first edition of The Collector, John Fowles debut novel. Signed by Fowles in the year of publication which is very uncommon.

Weird, withdrawn, and unloved, Fred is a young collector of butterflies. One day his eye alights on a beautiful stranger, the art student Miranda, and an obsession starts to form.... The dustjacket was designed by Tom Adams, one of the greatest illustrators of the 20th century who worked closely with Fowles as well as Agatha Christie. "Tom Adams is one of the very best cover artists of our time. His art is a blend of acute realism and haunting fantasy with a special genius for suiting image to story...." (John Fowles).

First edition, first impression. Internally a fine example. The dusjacket is near-fine with just a couple of nicks to the spine. Signed and dated by Fowles in the year of publication. An excellent example of a rare Fowles title.

Published by  Jonathan Cape, London, 1963.
