Frankenstein | 1823, rare second edition, the first to name Shelley as the author.
An excellent copy of the rare 1823 second edition — the first to bear Mary Shelley's name on the title page, and the first to include her famous preface recounting the ghost story competition that inspired Frankenstein.
Two volumes, handsomely bound in half navy calf over blue cloth, with gilt-decorated spines and raised bands. Internally clean, tight, and remarkably fresh, with just minor foxing (typical for any 19th c.copy of Frank). Edges are rough-trimmed as issued. It’s a beautiful and honest set with no dreaded restoration.
