A country house setting, poison and Hercule Poirot, it is of course the first Agatha Christie book - an extremely rare title - The Mysterious Affair at Styles

Originally written as the result of a bet in that Christie, who had previously never written a book, could not compose a detective novel in which the reader would not be able to "spot" the murderer. This is the book that launched it all and also introduced the world not only to Christie's writing but also Poirot, that detective who used 'the little grey cells'.

First edition, first impression. A near-fine example with the covers which are notoriously prone to fading, still showing bright. A strong investment piece.

Published by John Lane The Bodley Head, UK, 1921.
