The Phantom of the Opera | 1925, a fine example of the rare first photoplay edition.

£2,000.00 GBP

A fine first photoplay edition of Gaston Leroux's magnum opus, The Phantom of the Opera. This printing was published by Grosset & Dunlap, in New York, in 1925, to accompany the 1925 Universal Pictures film adaptation starring Lon Channey in what is considred to be one of cinema's most iconic portrayals of the Phantom. Illustrated throughout with black and white scenes from that production, as well as with stunning colour illustrations by Andre Castaigne. This is the finest example on the market. The jacket is pretty much perfect.

Description and Condition:

First photoplay edition. Original publishers red cloth. A fine example, the pages are crisp and both the original colour illustrations and stills from the movie are in fine condition. The only minor defect is a very small previous owner name to the ffep. The original dustjacket is also fine. One will never find a better example of this title. It is absolutely beautiful - just look at the pictures!
